Norwood Take-Back Day is Coming Up!

Why is this environmental news? Because proper disposal of prescription drugs protects the water supply! Medicinal chemicals cannot be removed from your sewer or storm drains and eventually end up in the environment, including drinking water. Protect our water supply-please dispose of your unused/expired medications safely! See below:

Got Drugs?

Norwood participates in the National Take-Back Initiative National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day collections twice a year. This day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. The next Day is October 22, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  at the Community Center- go to the DEA National Take-Back Initiative page to find a location near you – click here for their home page.

Electronics Recycling Update

For the past few years, Norwood residents have been able to drop off their old electronics and televisions at the Norwood DPW and/or schedule a pickup on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, in compliance with the e-Waste recycling law. This arrangement benefited both the Borough and our residents, as the electronics recycler paid the Borough for the collected electronics by weight. Due to the changing recycling market, including restrictions placed on incoming recyclable electronics by other countries, the Borough now has to pay to have these items picked up. While the scheduled pickup arrangement will continue this year until further notice, the Borough requests that residents now dispose of their electronics at the  County recycling days scheduled throughout the year, instead of behind the DPW. These dates are listed in the Borough calendar and online at bcua.org. The next electronics recycling collection date is this coming Sunday, August 21st at Bergen Community College in Paramus from 9am to 2 pm.

Drought Watch Status as of 8/14

From: New Jersey Drought Information
Comment on the Drinking Water Supply Indicators:

Following substantial rainfall in late July, the NJDEP’s drinking-water-supply indicators experienced modest improvements since issuance of a Drought Watch for the Northeast, Northwest and Central water supply regions on July 25, 2016.  Despite the welcomed rainfall, concerns over the lingering effect of months of below-average precipitation remain. If dry weather and warmer-than-average temperatures return, conditions will likely deteriorate and bring the prospects of future drought response actions back into play.  To help avert this possibility, continued cooperation by the public to use water wisely is necessary. Helpful water conservation tips are available at:  http://njdrought.org/ideas.html.
